Superb LS Lowry inspired original paintings from well known artist Sean Durkin

Sean Durkin has been inspired to paint in LS Lowry style after his father stole a Lowry painting in protest of art galleries not being open to suit working people !

In 1972, John Durkin stole the painting by renowned Manchester artist LS Lowry, depicting St Hilda’s Church and Middlesbrough’s old Town Hall – and then demanded the Mayor raffle his underpants for charity to secure the painting’s safe return. When he was arrested by police after the theft, he had a ransom letter calling for art galleries to be opened on Sundays “to allow the working man to get some culture”.

His son Sean, eight at the time, remembers the affair well – and is now a successful painter in his own right. He said: “I remember going downstairs one morning and on the mantelpiece there was this little painting depicting what looked to me like a big house, a church, and some ‘matchstick’ people scurrying around.

Mr Herbert - Sally Dunham

I am very proud to be entering my 22nd year of business as a sculptor, with my own work style, which is unique and distinctive as a Sally Dunham creation. Over this time I have been privileged to work with a range of fantastic galleries and private customers.

My passion for creating is as strong as ever and I still get excited each time I pick up the clay to create something new, whether it be for a new idea I have had or to realise a bespoke design for a customer. I hope that my work brings the viewer as much enjoyment to see and own as it does to create! My main constraint is finding time to produce all the ideas I have as I am continuously inspired by the world around me, things I see and people I meet!

My love for art started much longer than 22 years ago, right from a young child I would spend hours creating models from fimo and fabric. My first real introduction to clay came when I started Sixth Form College in Cambridge and was given a choice of media in which to specialise. As soon as I touched clay I was hooked. I remember carving into a block of clay to create my first figure, and my wonderful teacher, Neil, saying to me, “Remember, the figure is in there, you just have to discover it”. This has always stayed with me. When I started my Degree course at the University of Wolverhampton, I spent two years experimenting with a range of techniques. Towards the end of my second year and the duration of my third year, my current style began to evolve and continues to develop to this day.

Time Line – a new surreal limited edition from Alberto Martinez

Time Line – Time Is Of The Essence

Alberto’s new limited edition imagines a world that works in better synchronicity with itself ; a place in perpetual movement, going in all directions.  As he says .. Given the importance of life as we know it, I’ve given many of the characters a water background with both sea and freshwater fish joined together in unison, sharing space with no sense of hierarchy.

Within this picture there are elements of clockwork mechanisms, Omega speedmaster being a favourite of mine, as well as being the watch used by most astronauts, cementing both the concept and deception of time. This clockwork detail frames part of the station structure both visually and metaphorically, as well as posters on the ceiling serving as a reminder of the struggles that we have had and may continue to have during our relationship with the natural world.

This picture is meant to be a colourful and lively homage to a time where we live in better harmony with all living things, hopefully in the near future.
