Especially commissioned for us, these stunning contemporary seascape paintings are beautifully painted and full of atmosphere.

David James was born in London in 1944 and moved to Outer London in the fifties. He currently lives in Sussex on the coast, within reach of the South Downs. He is married to an artist and has three children. Much of the inspiration for his work is drawn from the Lake District, Devon and Cornwall, and the Welsh Countryside. David has exhibited his works at the Royal Academy and in leading provincial galleries.

Superb original oil paintings of the sea from Marina Emphietzi.

Ideal as a pair, this range of original oils demonstrates the considerable talents of Marina Emphietzi to great effect.

Marinas’ work explores issues of time, life and memory. Through painting she channels life experiences to create works of art. Marina grew up in a house by the sea in Famagusta, Cyprus ; a home she lost in the trauma of war.

Although she didn’t set out to produce art about anything specific, as her portfolio developed over the years, she realised that the pleasure and energy she was getting from painting was when she focused on water, boats, beaches, marinas, wet stones and rocks. Subjects emanating from childhood memories of her early life by the sea.

Using strong tonal forms and a vivid colour palette Marina’s paintings are visual representations of conversations and inner feelings. Infused in time and space they act as a reminder of what has happened in the past. These moments become pathways for understanding the connections we share as humans with each other and with the natural world that surrounds us.

Superb LS Lowry inspired original paintings from well known artist Sean Durkin

Sean Durkin has been inspired to paint in LS Lowry style after his father stole a Lowry painting in protest of art galleries not being open to suit working people !

In 1972, John Durkin stole the painting by renowned Manchester artist LS Lowry, depicting St Hilda’s Church and Middlesbrough’s old Town Hall – and then demanded the Mayor raffle his underpants for charity to secure the painting’s safe return. When he was arrested by police after the theft, he had a ransom letter calling for art galleries to be opened on Sundays “to allow the working man to get some culture”.

His son Sean, eight at the time, remembers the affair well – and is now a successful painter in his own right. He said: “I remember going downstairs one morning and on the mantelpiece there was this little painting depicting what looked to me like a big house, a church, and some ‘matchstick’ people scurrying around.
