Meet Duncan Palmar on 4th & 5th December

The Duncan Palmar Exhibition in December

We are delighted to have a wide selection of Duncan Palmar’s stunning original oil paintings of local beaches throughout December with Duncan appearing in the gallery from Friday 4th to Saturday 5th December.

We will also be arranging commissions for customers who wish to have their favourite beach or coastal view  depicted by Duncan. This truly is a marvellous way to take your special memories of Cornwall home with you !

duncanDuncan started painting professionally from the age of 19 and continues to attract collectors who appreciate fine oil and watercolour paintings.

Inspired by the Newlyn School of Artists who worked in Cornwall in the last century his distinctive representational style captures texture, light and atmosphere in his landscapes and coastal scenes.

He successfully applies the same principles in his treatment and composition of the interplay of light that those artists achieved in their paintings.

Duncan’s magical coastal scenes evoke memories of the sand between your toes and have become a firm favourite in the gallery. We are delighted that he is able to join us so that customers and collectors have the opportunity to meet and discuss the inspiration behind his work.

Marie Louise Wrightson – Alice in Wonderland Visits The Seaside

Marie Louise Wrightson sees herself primarily as a realist still life oil painter, who uses an eclectic mix of objects & imagery to express interests, passions & memories.

Many of Marie’s works are inspired by memories from her childhood, such as trips to the seaside, colourful sweets, fairground amusements and visits to her grandparents. Such memories are incorporated in figurative form to create a visual self-portrait comprised of past moments and treasured memories.

About The Artist

Marks hugely successful musical series was a complete sell-out with his former publishers and his originals and limited editions often sold within a few days of issue. Due to the painstaking attention to detail original paintings are in short supply leading to a high demand.

These latest limited editions  have a resin finish with 3D elements that give a new dimension to his work which with black and white lacquered frames fuse beautifully with the piano themed artwork.

Newcastle upon Tyne born Mark Grieves admits he would struggle to find work other than painting.

If I hadnt have had a talent for painting and drawing I would dread to think what I would have ended up doing as a career. I have no interest in doing anything else. I grew up with fantasy and sci fi art. My bedroom walls were adorned with Rodney Matthews posters. The beauty of creating images that normally wouldnt exist in real life is what art means to me. Whenever I see photo realistic paintings it fills me with sadness.

My method of working is a little bit different from the traditional approach. Normally you would work from light to dark but I find it natural to work in reverse from dark to light. Working exclusively in oils I always start with a completely black canvas and add highlights until I find the balance in contrast. I work hard at composition and at the geometry emphasising light and shadow. I like painting titles to give clues. There is always a strong sense of narrative. I paint what comes into my head, from my imagination. Every original painting is time consuming and can take many weeks to complete but I am confident this shows in the end result.
